Vegas, here we come!
It was one of the longer drives, Zion to Las Vegas. We needed to be ready to hit Vegas at 4pm.
Allowing time to drop the trusty stead (GMC Acadia) off at the airport we decided to miss sit down breakfast ad hit the road by 9am. Jane and I popped into a deli and grabbed some food to eat on the way. .As we crossed the State line into Nevada we gained an hour which was great. We stopped for a stretch and took some photos of our transport before we parted company.

Arrived in Vegas running parallel with the Strip, saw the Mandalay bay as we drove in.

The reception was vast, we had to walk for what seemed to be ages through line after line of casino machines and tables, as we headed for the Delano wing. The hotel even had its own beach!

After getting ourselves sorted it was a quick change and out to the Stratosphere for a meal. This was followed by an hours drive on the Vegas Strip by courtsey of Lou and Rich.

Lake Powell/Page to Springdale in the Zion National Park Utah
Crossing the Arizona/Utah border again(last time was in Monument Valley) we lost an hour. We stopped at Kantab, had lunch at a very interesting diner called Nedra’s.The back of the menu had a list of all the films that used the surrounding area

One of the entrances to Zion National Park is enroute although we did not know at the time. we drove through on winding roads cutting through a canyon/gorge and passed through a long tunnel before we reached Springfield and the Pioneer Lodge.

The next day we dove into another part of the Park and took a shuttle to various points in the canyon. We initially went to the last stop and walked further up the canyon.

Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam
Onward to the Grand Canyon
Decided to go via Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon – Jane wanted a coffee at Macys so arrived at the Best Western hotel later than planned. Lou had driven for at least hour and a half. Good hotel, meal expensive.
Next day – to the Canyon, bit of a queue. Made our way to the visitors centre where we were told that blue badge holders can go where the shuttles travel. This gave us great flexibility in visiting the best view points.
We stayed till sunset which was fascinating with the changing light on the canyon.
Coffee Pot Restaurant – Sedona
Having explored the red rocks of Sedona, we pack up and head on to our next stop, which will be the Grand Canyon.
You can’t travel without breakfast first though – right? Mrs Blackburn had researched the food places before take off and this was one on the hit list.
The Coffee Pot is the best place we have had breakfast so far, so if you are in Sedona you won’t be disappointed with starting your day here.
The staff are super friendly and helpful and the food was delivered quickly. For that all American service with a smile and some excellent food the coffee pot is the place to be.
